down in warrenton at a mile. leonardtown and tappahannock, visibilities quite low. that's zero visibility from leonardtown. here comes monika with a traffic update. good morning. it's still looking great out there. the good news is that all of your construction from overnight is gone and all the lanes are open on all of your major thoroughfares. so far i'm going to keep my fingers crossed that your friday morning stays that way. route 32 out of columbia, 95 coming in down toward laurel, the bw parkway, no issues to report into greenbelt. all that construction in the greenbelt area on the beltway is cleared up. let's take a live look outside. if you're planning to head here on 95 at route 198, as i said, coming in from laurel and even baltimore, everything is looking good. back over to our maps. this time we'll head over to the inside of the beltway. 395 across the 14th street bridge, 295 at the 11th street bridge and even 66 toward the roosevelt bridge, all lanes are open to the river. we'll take a live look at the 14th street bridge. nice and light this morning. i'll be ba with more coming up at 5:09.

back to you. american embassies around the muslim world are on heightened alert fearing protests could intensify after friday prayers. >> meanwhile, there have been arrests in libya connected to tuesday's deadly attack on the u.s. consulate. 9news now reporter kristin fisher is live outside the state department with the latest. good morning, kristin. >> reporter: good morning. libyan authorities are now saying that they have arrested four men in connection with this attack on the u.s. consulate that killed our ambassador to libya and three other americans. also u.s. officials are now saying that they do believe this was a coordinated attack likely conducted by a terrorist group with links to al qaeda. this evidence is all mounting two days -- excuse me, three days now after this attack took place. the evidence is mounting that this was a precisely typed precisely timed raid carried

out by militants. eastern libya's deputy interior minister said he believes the militants were tipped off to the safehouse location by infiltrators within the consulate security force. that same minister also says that the militants were likely using the civilians protesting that anti-islam film as cover for their attack. the u.s. government has condemned the attacks and the president has promised to bring justice to the people that were killed, those four americans killed in the attack. meanwhile, the protests continue across the middle east. yesterday we saw the protests spread from egypt and libya to yemen, iraq and iran. all u.s. diplomatic missions now on high alert. i'll have more on that coming up in half an hour at 5:30. >> kristin fisher live outside the state department with that latest update for us this morning. this morning an alexandria man is scheduled to be

sentenced for plotting a suicide bomb against the u.s. capitol. the 29-year-old pleaded guilty in federal court. f.b.i. acts arrested him in -- agents arrested him in february after undercover officers provided him with what was believed to be a bomb vest. in campaign 2012, republican vice presidential candidate paul ryan is making a morning speech in the district at the values voters summit. then this afternoon he'll be in harrisonburg, virginia. ryan's running mate g.o.p. presidential nominee mitt romney stopped in fairfax thursday. he began by offering words and praise of slained ambassador stevens but was interrupted by a heck letter. he went on to criticize obama's foreign policy. first lady michele obama spoke to supporters at mary washington university in fredricksburg. she told the audience the president needs four more years

to complete what he started. today maryland's public service commission will conclude its hearing into this summer's derecho storm. after traveling around the state last month to hear from utility customers, now members are asking pepco and other power companies how they can avoid week-long outages after major storms. thursday bge officials said in order to restore power within 24 hours, the whole power system would have to be redesigned. the time right now is 5:05. i am watching your money. there is a lot of economic news on the agenda this morning, but the reports are not likely to overshadow the federal reserve's new bond buying program. checking the numbers from wall street, the dow stands this morning at 13,539. check this out. 206-point rally yesterday after the fed announcement. the nasdaq was up by 41 points. and the s&p 500 was better by 23. the term reserve will spend

$40 billion a month to buy bonds hoping it will lower long- term interest rates and spur spending, maybe helping jobs as well. that program begins today. the central bank will also keep short-term interest rates at record lows through 2015. a glooming reading on the jobs front. the labor department announced that the number of americans looking for unemployment benefits is up to its highest level in two months. but the agency also pointed out the 382,000 claims were likely skewed by hurricane isaac. it disrupted work, particularly for seasonable workers for about 9,000 people. the house has passed a six months spending bill last night before members leave washington next week to campaign for reelection. the temporary spending bill would avert a government shutdown when the current budget year expires september 30. that pushes hundreds of decision on day-to-day operations and budgets of federal agencies off till the next congress. there are signs of progress

you can see in southern maryland, leonardtown coming in with zero visibility, half mile in frederick. we also have a little bit of fog out toward culpeper and also down in the tappahannock area where some of the visibilities there are down to about a quarter after mile. we'll have another decent day around here. it's been a great week. why not finish it on a good note with a mix of clouds and sunshine. by noon 77. i think we'll top out about 83 or so still nice this evening, perhaps a few more clouds, 80. slight chance after shower tonight as a cold front comes through. that means we'll have a fine weekend with highs generally in the upper 70s. we'll have the full seven-day forecast in about five. right now over to monika with a look at your timesaver traffic. all lanes open on the beltway in prince george's county. for example, here near kenilworth avenue where overnight you do have the roadblocked but right now everything is open between 95 and the wilson bridge. i'll be back with more traffic coming up in a few minutes at 5:16. 5:09. here's what's making news now. marathon talks have gone on

overnight in hopes of resolving the chicago teachers strike. teachers in the nation's third largest school district walked off the job at the beginning of the week. pennsylvania's supreme court is weighing arguments on the state's voter identification law. opponents of the law claim it unfairly targets the elderly, poor and minorities. we're less like -- who are less likely to have photo i.d. the state says it's a way to protect against photo fraud. a court is expected to issue a ruling by month's end. thousands of people are filling emergency shelters in guatemala after a huge eruption from the volcano. authorities are trying to get more than 30,000 people out of harm's way. yesterday's eruption sent a cloud of ash half a mile into the air. we've all done this. we've skipped the workouts. so join me on my journey from couch to 5k. you can do this, too. we're going to have more on this coming up at 5:37.

still great. here's howard. >> the "u.s.a. today," a big blue dot now. they're good but not as accurate as i am. it's still on the back page of the main section. let's get you going with a look at the bus stop forecast on this friday morning. bus stop forecast, this weather has been great. it's endured this week but it's going to change too early next week. partly cloudy, patchy fog, 50s and 60s. we have the sunrise not until 6:49. as far as today, a mix of clouds and sunshine. mid-60s at 9:00. mid- to upper 70s though for lunch. it's been a great week to have lunch outside today. we'll keep that streak going. by 5:00, 81 after topping out 3:30, 4:00 p.m. at about 83 or so. average high is 80. fog a bit of an issue. frederick visibility a half mile. we're holding to a mile in warrenton but in the southern maryland area around

leonardtown, we've come up from zero to half mile and still about a quarter mile at the tappahannock airport there down in virginia. got a little bit of fog to deal with. temperatures in the 50s in most areas this morning although when you head toward d.c., 64. but 54 laurel. 54 crofton. 55 in great falls this morning. 56 in haymarket. pretty uniform air mass but we're close to those dew points and that's why in some areas we have that patch or two of fog. here's our michael & son weather camera. it's quiet this morning in tysons corner, virginia with a temperature of 64. calm winds. partly cloudy conditions. the miewmedty at 78 -- the humidity at 80%. the dew point not really high enough to concern ourselves with a front coming in. you can see where the front is with 40 in bismarck. 56 minneapolis. the front is back here. the front has been producing lots of showers out to our west, even down in texas coming up toward kansas and missouri and in toward detroit this morning. we're watching some of those showers. behind the front, got some cooler air trying to move in. that's going more east than

south. ahead of the front the warm stuff. the low to mid-80s like what we'll be seeing for this afternoon. a couple of clouds streaming in off the appalachians but as far as the futurecast, looks like a quiet day. could be an isolated shower toward norfolk, virginia beach. tonight we'll watch the front get closer and closer to us. here it is coming in overnight. by tomorrow morning 6:00 a.m. passing d.c. but without much in the way of fanfare. maybe a few showers up in southern new york and well east of us. then tomorrow we return back into the sunshine with high temperatures in the 70s. looks very nice for the weekend. 83 today. pretty nice, right? tonight a stray shower mainly north of town. lows in the low 60s d.c., mid- 50s north and west. tomorrow upper 70s. a little breezy but a sunny day. sunday pleasant, clouds building a little bit more in the afternoon. again the upper 70s. then next week showers likely monday and tuesday. tuesday 76. monday 76. tuesday 78 and wednesday

the 50s in most areas. it's 64 d.c. with 52 manassas. the fog is down to quarter visibility. half mile in warrenton. let's go to monika and find out about the incidents she's talking about in prince george's county. it was a high speed police chase which ended on the outer loop of the beltway after kenilworth avenue. see all that red already forming on the northbound side of the beltway right here in prince george's county, only the left lane is getting by. first let's go to our mdot camera. take a look at it. you'll see it -- actually, they moved the camera. this is what you're dealing withouter loop of the beltway trying to get toward kenilworth avenue. let's go to our chart camera and see if we can take another look at it from college park perspective. there you go. there is the activity and the left side of the road is getting by. that's what you have to deal with early, early this friday morning. i'm so sorry but police are telling us that hopefully it shouldn't be there for too much longer.

back over to the maps this time over to virginia on the northbound side of i-95 you're fine. we'll take a live look in springfield where the lanes are open. i'll be back with more on that situation at 5:37. back to you guys. >> monika, thank you. libyan authorities say they have made arrests in connection to the consulate attack which killed u.s. ambassador chris stevens and three other americans. >> this morning security is tight at u.s. diplomatic installations around the muslim world. 9 news now reporter kristin fisher is live at the state department with more on the story. good morning, kristin. >> reporter: good morning. people here at the state department very concerned about their colleagues overseas. all u.s. diplomatic missions overseas, especily in the middle east have been placed on high alert as these protests now begin to enter their fourth day. overnight let me show thu video. we're looking at protesters in cairo just outside the u.s. embassy there. you can see fires and small explosions lighting up the streets just outside the

embassy. president obama now asking -- now asking folks in egypt to provide more security and then yesterday those protests al expanded to yemen, iran, and iraq. they're protesting of course the anti-islam youtube video that secretary of state hill run clinton has called disgusting and reprehensible. evidence is mounting that militants who killed the u.s. ambassador to libya and three other americans were using the protests as cover for their attack on the u.s. consulate in libya. local neighbors there say it is not representative of how most libyans feel towards americans. take a listen. >> what happened here is not representing the libyans, especially not representing our islam. we're not like that. we feel shame. we feel shame for what happened. they were here to help us. they helped us and they were helping us and we really need

this help. >> reporter: the other big news this morning, libyan authorities now say they have arrested four men in connection with the attack on the u.s. consulate on tuesday. libyan authorities say they are investigating those four men. also the f.b.i. agents are also on the scene conducting their own investigation. the other big news, u.s. officials now believe that this was indeed a coordinated attack, very well planned, very well executed, and it was likely led by a group with connections to al qaeda. a lot of new developments this morning but of course these protests continuing now into their fourth day. back to you. >> kristin fisher reporting live from the state department. this afternoon classmates after murdered central high school student will hold a memorial service on the school's football field. 18-year-old marckel ross was shot and killed early tuesday as he walked to school. last night prince george's county police showed up at back- to-school night to talk with parents and students about the

murder. friends also held a candlelight vigil at the spot where the junior honor roll student was killed. a northern virginia man who's been on death row for 11 years could be freed after a bond hearing today. wolfe was a star running back at chantilly high school -- justin wolfe was involved in drugs dealing marijuana. but the witnesses who helped get wolfe convicted of a drug- related murder later recanted their testimony and that led to a court overturning his murder conviction. virginia's board of health is set to vote today on a new regulation for abortion clinics. in june the board went against state attorney general ken cuccinelli and removed a provision which would have required clinics to meet the same standards as new hospitals. but then kush nellie -- cuccinelli refused to certify the regulations saying the board overstepped its authority. more than three years later met free has fixed the faulty train detection system at the root of the dedzly 2009 --

dedzly 2009 -- deadly 2009 crash. it should prevent trains on the same line from getting too close to each other. trains could soon return to automatic control. metro has been running trains in manual mode since the accident. a vacant apartment complex is about to become a pile of rubble. prince george's county executive rushern baker helped strike the first blows. the demolition is part of baker's transforming neighborhoods initiatives which targets six areas of the county with high crime rates, poor student performance and economic -- [ inaudible ] our jessica doyle has set an ambitious goal. >> i'll be really sweaty. i'm going to get blisters, aches and pains. coming up after the break, how you can join my couch to 5k challenge.

get off the couch. couch to 5k with jessica doyle. >> i'm inspired. game on here. >> we're running in hawaii. >> we're on a highway. we're running this morning. >> what is this all about? >> this is about the fact that i sometimes get winded walking upstairs. what is this program about? maybe you've heard of these before? they're really simple training programs that take you if you don't have the greatest physical fitness owe owe if your -- -- if your physical fitness isn't fantastic, it's a slow training session and i started my program this week. >> how does it work? how slowly do we build up to something? >> 5k sounds really, really hard. but how does running for 60 seconds and then walking for 90 seconds sound? if you do that over and over

again, you build up your endurance and you can do it. that's sort of my goal. so this week my program started with a 5-minute brisk walk to get warmed up because i have a bad hip. everybody has got something. then i ran for 60 seconds, walked for 90 seconds, ran for 60 seconds until i hit 20 minutes. and i have -- i've been blogging about this on my new blog with wusa9 and i've been taking some video. >> look how good she looks? >> this is my headband because i'm an athlete now. i took video from my first run to show you how i felt going into it and how i felt after it. >> reporter: can't start a 5k on day one, at least i can't. so i'm not going to try. but i am going to check back in with you periodically. i want you to check in with me. i want you to comment. i want you to be tough.

as i said, still an hour or so till the sunrise. 64, partly cloudy. humidity at 80 purposes. with calm winds notice the dew point 58. we're getting some of the suburb temperatures and the dew point could be very close and with the light winds, that's why that fog has formed in a few spots. what's going to happen over the weekend? we'll get a front to come through tonight. it's producing showers from detroit to almost indianapolis and st. louis. the front comes through tonight. ahead of it a warm day with a couple of clouds mixed with the sunshine, highs in the 80s. even though you see the showers now, i'll show you the futurecast. the front doesn't have much moisture to work with. here is at 6:00 approaching pittsburgh. we'll get you to the overnight period. you see the front coming through with clouds but any showers well east of us, well north of us and around here just a stray shower near the pennsylvania border. we're not going to see much. tomorrow we start out good and finish good with a lot of sunshine and a nice weekend
